The Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park has updated its list of events through June 2010.

Below is the latest list.

UPCOMING EVENTS FOR AUGUST 2009 THROUGH JUNE 2010

MONTHLY BIRD WALKS ON PEPPER CREEK TRAIL
October 24, 2009        8:00– 9:30 a.m. (Meet at 7:45 a.m.)
November 28, 2009         8:00– 9:30 a.m. (Meet at 7:45 a.m.)
January 23, 2010        8:00– 9:30 a.m. (Meet at 7:45 a.m.)

(No bird walks in May, June, July, August, September and December)

Novice and experienced birders are invited to take a guided bird walk on Pepper Creek Trail. Bring binoculars and field guide if you have them. This leisurely-paced walk is on a handicapped accessible (paved) trail winding through a hydric hammock along Pepper Creek. Please call the park office if you have questions.

FALL GARDENING WORKSHOPS

Regular park admission applies.
Marion Knudsen’s fall gardening workshop will teach you how to use low-maintenance native plants and xeriscaping to conserve water resources and enjoy carefree Florida gardening. Please make reservations in advance by calling the park office at (352) 628-5343.

HAUNTED TRAM RIDES
Friday and Saturday, October 30 and 31, 2010
5:00 – 10:00 p.m.
Adults $5.00, Children $3.00 for Haunted Tram Rides
The Friends present the Haunted Tram Rides with refreshments, costume contests and activities in the parking area of the Visitor Center with spooky scenarios set up along the park’s tram road.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION OF LIGHTS
December 18 -24 and 26, 2009
5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Sponsored by the Friends of Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park
The community is invited to come out and enjoy the park decked out for the holidays with thousands of twinkling lights and Christmas decorations during this multi-evening event. A variety of entertainment will be scheduled and refreshments will be available.

LU, THE HIPPO’S 50th BIRTHDAY
Tuesday, January 26, 2010
Parties scheduled at 10 a.m. and at 12:30 p.m.
Regular park admission
Lu will celebrate his 50th birthday on January 26 complete with a visit from students of Homosassa Elementary School, a birthday cake and music. A second party is held during the 12:30 p.m. Alligator and Hippo program. 

CITRUS WATERCOLOR CLUB SHOW AND SALE
Saturday and Sunday, February 10 and 11, 2010

Annual exhibit and sale of the art work of many area watercolor artists in the Visitor Center at the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park.

STAFF ART AND CRAFT SHOW AND SALE

Annual exhibit and sale of arts and crafts by the park’s employees and volunteers in the Visitor Center of Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park.

HOMOSASSA HERITAGE DAY
Saturday, March 6, 2010
10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Free admission to all activities in the Florida Room at the Visitor Center
Regular admission applies for entrance into the Wildlife Park
Heritage Day exhibits and programs in the Florida Room on the history of the park and the Homosassa area. Former employees, their families and anyone interested in the heritage of the park and this area are invited to attend. Former employees may register as Homosassa Heritage Keepers and will receive a pass for a complimentary visit to the wildlife park.

EASTER EGG HUNT
Saturday, April 3, 2010
Starting at 8;00 a.m.
Donation of $5.00 for children includes admission to park
Adults receive a 33% discount on park admission
The Friends of Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park will hold an Easter Egg Hunt for area children. Activities include an Easter Egg hunt for plastic eggs, which can then be redeemed for goodies and trinkets Parents can take children’s photos with the Easter Bu7nny and other costumed characters.

The Great Train Story

Sugarmill Woods Chorale rehearsals

22nd annual Florida Manatee Festival
